bits and pieces [ April 27, 2005, 9:18 pm ]

i don't know what the roomate is up to. i almost have the feeling she's planning to pack up and walk out and leave me in the lurch, except that would be just way too low and immature and inconsiderate. however we had a rent increase notice so we have to sign a new lease if we're accepting it, so it should all be out in the open before too long.

started a new session at gym M today, so i was handling many registration forms and cheques and such. i was rifling thru the receipt book at the end of it all, and i stopped dead in my tracks when i saw the name of one mother.

she has maura's exact name. which, obviously, isn't maura. regardless, in real life, she had the exact same name.

neither the first or last name is really unusual, but there's not a whole lot of not-really-maura's running around all the same. it's just one of those names that's not that common.

i'm sure it is not, in fact, maura, because A) i'm positive would have recognized her in the lobby; B) my mother told me just recently that she was still living up in the homeland, and has never mentioned anything about hearing that she had a kid; and C)i don't think she would have ever named her daughter this particular name.

all the same, i plan to pay close attention to the parental units floating around next wednesday. just to be sure.

lila and stacy bought a house a few months ago. well, i guess they bought it farther back, but they moved in after christmas. being three years older than lila and having trouble paying my rent on a regular basis, i can't quite fathom having a mortgage, but they both have boring well-paying jobs of the sort you get up north - factory work and office work - so i guess they can handle it. all the same, i wouldn't really desire the same sort of thing for myself.

they're going to court on friday to contest the custody arrangement of stacy's daughters, who they get every other weekend. i'm not sure if stacy wants primary custody or just equal, but in any case, lila is very soon going to have two stepdaughters who no longer just visit. (i say this with a fair degree of certainty because stacy's ex is a bit of a lunatic, plus she is single and makes less money than either of them - i doubt stacy will have trouble getting whatever he wants). this is also something i can't fathom, whilst being three years older than lila. stepkids? living in my house? permanently? no, thank you!

this, however, is just one of those things that good small-town northern ontario girls do - settle down. you can all see why i had to leave. i clearly did not belong.
